Why is my smoke alarm going off so frequently???

Placement

Smoke damage in Norton, Wrentham, Attleboro, Seekonk, Swansea, Mansfield let us help you

If your smoke alarm is too close to your kitchen or appliances such as a stove or toaster, it could set off your alarm more frequently than you'd like.

If your alarm is too close to a window, this can cause it to go off as well. The frequent drafts can cause the sensors to believe it's smoke.

Another place you do not want to place your smoke detector is right outside your bathroom. The steam from the shower may cause it to believe it's smoke.

Bugs... yuck!!

The little vents on the sides and tops of your smoke alarms are meant to allow smoke to enter to reach the sensors.

Sometimes, little bugs can crawl inside and interfere with the sensors.

Dust

Dust building up on the inside or outside of your smoke detectors can cause them to be either MORE or LESS sensitive. When they are less sensitive, this can be very dangerous, as they won't be as effective in letting you know when there is smoke or a fire!

Batteries

If your smoke alarm is beeping, that means your batteries need to be changed. It's important that you change the batteries at least once a year to ensure it's in proper working order!
